There is a feeling that comes from hearing hip hop done right, for me, which trumps most others. In an era where skills are often overlooked in favor of big, radio-friendly hooks and which guests you can get to drop a verse on your album, it is a feeling that’s too often absent from my life. Or was, until Alexander Spit’s incredible album, These Long Strange Nights, found its way to my ears.
From start to finish, it’s an album that delivers in all aspects… production that bangs at all the right moments, slang-filled lyrics that you will actively want to learn and the perfect samples to tie the whole thing together. It’s a genius album from a man who deserves the massive success that we collectively waste on artists with far less talent and ambition.
With a new EP about to drop and another album set for later this year, now’s the perfect time to get familiar then cop the bragging rights for knowing about him before your friends did.
Spitter’s been writing lyrics and making beats since the age of ten, so it’s no surprise that by this point he’s figured out what works. He’s released four albums, all available for free on his website, the most recent being the smoked-out beat tape Mansions, a long strange trip in its own right.
Having recently played shows with Dipset, Three-Six Mafia, Action Bronson and SpaceghostPurrp, Spit is just beginning to scratch the surface of popularity, a surface he will soon have his name fully carved into.
Next up is the A Breathtaking Trip EP, coming August 7th and followed soon thereafter by his collaboration with Bago, entitled Sunday’s Best.

Man I miss The Instant Messengers. Put up great live shows in SF. Lost track of Alexander Spit when he moved to LA. Glad to see he’s still doing his thing. These guys were my introduction to underground hiphop. If it wasn’t for Chesh putting Kill the Image in my hand circa 2006 who knows what kind of garbage I’d be listening to. Thank you thank you thank you. Goonies for life!
Love that comment and commend you for having good taste.
