With the melodious beauty of a Parisian nightclub and the minimalist brilliance of a seascape painting, Beach House is the dream from which waking is a tragady.
Background Check:
The beach house as a sand swept structure is very precise in purpose, escape. People go to their beach house, should they be lucky enough to have one, to retreat from the maddening world they often find themselves attached to. In that regard, Alex Scally and Victoria Legrand could not have found a more telling moniker for their tranquil and soothing sound. This Baltimore based duo perfectly combine gentle organs and engaging over-dubbed vocals without a shred of stress or an ounce of drama. With the relentlessness of surf and the wonder of tide pool, Beach House are the escape from all that makes you move along and worry about your life.
Their 2006 self-title debut quickly caught the ears of discerning critics and found it’s way on several year end top album lists. Most notably, their single, “Apple Orchard” lured in listeners immediatly hypnotized by Legrand’s lush voice adn Scally’s elegant composition. These trends continued to define Beach House’s 2008 follow up, Devotion. Devotion is music made by and best enjoyed by candlelight, fragile and yet striking. Unanimously praised as an advancement of their debut, Devotion has captivated and seduced even the coldest hearts. Thankfully, this is a dream that can be visited time and time again.
