Ian Moore and the Lossy Coils
Seattle, WA/Austin, TX
Spoon, Paul Weller, Old ‘97’s
If there’s one thing I’m afraid of, it’s aging. If you’ve spent any decent amount of time with me you already know this. But artists like Ian Moore are doing their part to soothe my fears, proving that the monster of time really can be beat. Sure you’ll go from long, luscious boy-locks to cool-dad swoop bangs, but you’ll still look good! And, most of all, you’ll still sound amazing. Maybe I should have started with the sound part…
Ian Moore has been in the biz since the early 90s, starting as a young recording artist in Texas and gaining critical and popular acclaim through his blues/rock offerings – taking his guitar driven tunes on tour opening for The (friggin’) Rolling Stones. These days, Moore’s music sounds more pop (in the best way possible) though the guitar noodling isn’t lost at all – it’s just mixed with plenty of “ooohs,” smart lyrics, harmonies, backing vocals and strong rhythm section.
Moore’s latest release, El Sonido Nuevo (aka the new sound), is filled with pop gems. “Birds of Prey” sounds like Britt Daniel could take it and record it for Spoon. Moore sings “looking back through the things I’ve missed, the creature comforts of miscreants, my words incisive but my motive’s wrong, I’ve no pretention.” Seems like someone has learned a lot through his years in music! And if that's not enough to convince you, don't forget that Moore's longtime bassist is Matt Harris from seminal indie rock band Oranger.
