Painted Palms
San Francisco, CA
MGMT, Passion Pit, Animal Collective
Painted Palms is a family band…not in the Allman Brothers or Jonas Brothers or even Hanson kind of way. After all these bros aren’t brothers, just cousins with a taste for pop music makin’. Painted Palms makes music with lots of echo, pretty sounds, electronic detail and dreamy vocals. In fact, most of the songs on their debut EP could be described as dreamy – layered, lush and nearly psychedelic. It might be hard to believe that it was composed via emailing tracks between the two cousins in separate parts of the USA.
Painted Palms – a duo that becomes a five-piece live – creates a summer-fun blast of jangly, electronic indie for anyone interested in chillin’, hangin’ out, and perhaps drinking, dancing or smoking a little. The band, separated by a time zone or two while creating their Canopy EP, is now based in San Francisco.
The boys just finished a month-long tour with Of Montreal, and are working on a debut LP as well as playing some shows throughout the summer. If you missed them on their recent tour, don’t worry, the band will be playing again across the nation by the end of 2011. The band was recently signed to indie powerhouse label Secretly Canadian – if that’s not a reason to check them out, I don’t know what is.

This is great. Thx for the download!
